Technical Services Technician - Dairy Product Development

Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Assurance and Technical Services, the Technical Services Technician will collaborate with the Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance teams to develop new and existing products while managing the daily execution of all laboratory activities related to research and development. The technician will innovate in current technologies and participate in developing policies, procedures, practices, and processes aimed at enhancing the dairy products offered by the Fromagerie. The technician works in both the laboratory and the production floor to conduct required tests, support product development, and improve the range of technical services related to total quality and food production technologies.
YOUR RESONSIBILITIES
• Conduct industrial trials and test large-scale production on the lines while analyzing successive results.
• Lead sensory evaluations and shelf-life studies to support product launches.
• Perform sensory analysis and product testing using appropriate methods, ensuring compliance with current standards.
• Prepare technical sheets, enter recipes into the database and quality management system, and track documents and reports related to new research and development projects.
• Research new ingredients, technologies, processes, and procedures to develop and execute new initiatives and maximize production yields.
• Support project execution by designing an experimental framework, building/revising analytical data, developing validation SOPs and product specifications, and identifying potential challenges.
• Monitor production parameters and equipment until production meets established standards.
• Collaborate with external research institutes or suppliers to deepen knowledge in agri-food processing.
• Support the laboratory team with daily tasks.
• May be asked to replace laboratory technicians during vacations and leaves.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• University degree in Food Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Completed program in Microbiology, Laboratory Technology, or Agri-food Processing/Food Science.
• Experience in a similar position, preferably in an agri-food manufacturing environment.
• Extensive knowledge of food technology (dairy products is an asset) and mathematics.
• In-depth knowledge of dairy product processing, packaging, and storage.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the food industry.
• Familiarity with regulations and standards from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
• Knowledge of the dairy sector (an asset).
• Knowledge of HACCP and SQF standards (an asset).
• Ability to work in a team and adapt.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
• Innovation and creativity, open-mindedness, and flexibility.
• Strong motivation, perseverance, and passion for science, with a focus on food development success.
• Demonstrated discipline and rigor in task execution.
• Good planning and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Bilingualism (an asset).
